I like to think that the best thing about this video is the true representation this gives of modern London and British culture- whilst this moron, who has been identified as Emma West from South London, yells about ethnic minorities and how “Britain is no longer Britain,” a young black male gets up angrily in the background and gets calmed down and hugged by a white young woman. He then sits back down.
I think he should’ve spoken against her and I’m personally surprised that not that many people did- the tram seems silent apart from her rambles. But I think people just didn’t care and let her have her moment, because let’s face it- we’ve all got problems and right now I think even the people that were disgusted and shocked on that tram literally could not be bothered to even look at her. Maybe they just didn’t want to give her the attention… and just like that Cribs album Ignore The Ignorant, which was named in response to the British National Party and it’s sudden revival and resurgence to the news- maybe they just ignored her in hope she’d shut up.
I don’t have to sit here and pick apart and tell her how everything she’s said is wrong- because everyone that’ll read this will know it is. As the son of first generation Eastern European immigrants, it makes me feel weird to know that some people would rather me not be here despite the fact I was born, raised and will probably die in England and, tbh, I kinda love it here. It’s my home.
I like the small embrace seen in the background between the young black dude and the white girl… it says a lot about my generation. It’s nice. And that’s what I think Britain is about; diversity, acceptance, tolerance. Cooperation. Racism is more or less always going to be a problem in society, but I think as the years go on people will be less and less interested about race and the more shallow amongst us will find some other categories to separate us in to… I wonder, will the human race ever be actually happy?
