Part of a statement allegedly made by Anders Breivik in the opening of his court case in Norway has bizarrely been adopted as an English Defence League status update on their official facebook page. The update which literally blew out of the water the EDL insistence that within their movement ‘black and white unite’ addresses identical concerns to the Norwegian terrorist. In Court on Monday, refusing to accept its legitimacy, Breivik has been reported by Norwegian tabloid VG to claim: “You have received your mandate from the organizations that support multiculturalism in Norway. Multiculturalism is an ideology of hatred, which is designed to deconstruct the Norwegian ethnic group. To deconstruct Norwegian ethnic group, is the same as ethnic cleansing.”
Followed just two days later by this:
http://www.facebook.com/EDL.EnglishDefenceLeague.NS/posts/288337711200754 post source, dont be surprised if it has been removed. The EDL upload their more extreme, honest stuff on a whim then PANIC
We noted with concern that the EDL update was something you could place next to a pre war Hitler with seamless ease but to see such blatant similarity in rhetoric between Stephen Lennon’s movement and a mass murderer is alarming. Were they aware Breivek had only days previously made exactly the same claims or are they not even aware of how close in ideological terms they are to the man? Stephen Lennon has already stated he understands why Breivik did what he did, adding:
“We share some of his opinions, and his fear, but not what he did in Norway 22 July. I do not think he is insane. I think that his approach was insane.”
“Breivik dared to come forward with his opinions, and was tough, in some regards. People need to understand that Breivik is not alone in these feelings.”
Really, what I would have liked, no expected from a leader of an organisation followed by mostly disenfranchised, angry young men would be an absolute, categorical condemnation of Breivik. Nothing less. Stephen however has always flirted with the radicalisation of the movement while resenting any accusations of extremism. Recently we noted an update from a young EDL supporter who, after observing what he assumed to be Muslims on a bus felt like ‘getting a nail gun out on the cunts’ … here he is pictured with Tommy. http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=263632857022863&set=o.174993392556452&type=1&theater
So there are very fragile individuals in the EDL attending demonstrations, socialising with Stephen Lennon and reading every update the English Defence League post on their official fan page. 18 thousand people were given the views of a man who shot children at point blank range under the guise of the EDL. If they knew they were saying exactly the same thing as him they should be proscribed and if they didn’t, they definitely should be.
I’m not even going to start on the blatant white supremacism of the update, I have added a link to a blog which covers that nicely.
“freedom of expression is a privilege not a right. With that privilege comes responsibility”
